Pwn2Own 2017 Day One Results Are in

The first day of Pwn2Own 2017 has come to a close, and so far, we’ve awarded $233,000 USD and 45 points for Master of Pwn. We saw five successful attempts, one partial success, two failures and two entries withdrawn.

The travel trade organization, Abta, says a cyberattack on its website may have affected about 43,000 people. About 1,000 of the files accessed may include personal identity information of individuals who have made a complaint about an Abta-registered travel agent. 

Twitter Accounts Hacked with Pro-Erdogan Messages

Twitter accounts belonging to high-profile news outlets, international brands and politicians were hacked on Wednesday, briefly showing posts in support of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president who is in a bitter standoff with several European Union countries. 

WhatsApp and Telegram Flaws Left Accounts Vulnerable to Hackers

If you use WhatsApp or Telegram on your web browser, you’ll want to shut down the browser to keep hackers from taking over your account. A group of researchers revealed Wednesday that the web browser version of these apps had flaws that could let hackers access and alter user accounts. 

GM Invites Ethical Hackers to Try and Hack Its Cars

Many security experts believe that as cars come online and autonomous vehicles hit the streets, they could become the next frontier for cyber-extortion and other forms of hacking. In one high-profile incident, hackers killed a jeep’s transmission as it was travelling at 70 miles per hour down the highway.
